Volunteer Income Tax Program
A free service for low income Canadians at any time of the year. Get your personal taxes filed and you may qualify for government benefits you were missing.
Home Support
If you need help with light housekeeping or meal preparation to stay in your home, we offer Home Support. Home Support is provided on sliding scale fees, based on the ability to pay. Basic services can be covered by certain government subsidies if you are a low income Albertan. We can help you apply.
Volunteering
We can help match you with volunteer opportunities throughout the county. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and invest in your community. Find your next opportunity or track your hours at volunteerconnector.org and search Vulcan for nearby postings. Or call us at 403-485-2192.
-Join our list at FCSS to volunteer as a Snow Angel, ready to shovel sidewalks for those who need assistance. If you need a Snow Angel just give us a call with your address.

If you have a youth aged 10-18, our Youth Centre offers a safe and fun environment to spend time and connect with other youth.

If you want to know more about what is going on in the community or need help getting the word out about your program or event, we put out the weekly Good Morning Newsletter and a Monthly Email of Events and Resources to help our community stay informed. Social connection is a vital part of overall health and feeling a sense of belonging to a community starts with knowing what is available and making an effort to get involved. Subscribe to the newsletter on our Home Page.
The Good Morning Newsletter is full of community events, jokes and information. It is a great and inexpensive way to advertise locally. Advertising is $10/week, printed weekly and distributed throughout Vulcan and villages. Local advertising helps us pay for printing costs. Non-profit events are free to advertise. Contact our office if you would like to put something in the newsletter. Sign up to the monthly Email of Events and Resources to stay informed about what is happening throughout Vulcan County.
Community Garden
Plots can be booked in early spring each year. For Community Garden Registration forms click here. FCSS collects the forms and fees and a volunteer organizes the garden preparation and gardeners. The garden is located just beyond the homes in Allen Acres in Vulcan.
Community Space
We offer community space for outside organizations to use.

- Meetings and training. Smart Recovery Meetings run on Wednesday evenings.

- Activities and events with partner organizations, community access and school fieldtrips.
Events, Workshops and Projects
We put on special events, projects and workshops to address specific needs in our community, provide opportunities for social connection and opportunities for learning and personal growth. Click here for a listing of current events or check out our calendar.
Past projects include the Great Re-Connect BBQ, Kids Day Out in Lomond, Arrowwood and Milo, Resource Directory, Community Check-In, Financial Workshops, online Conversation Café, Pop-Up Spring Socials, Stone Soup Food Delivery, Senior Kits, Senior’s Week Breakfast, Parenting Workshops, Baby Think It Over, Lunch and Learn Workshops, Women’s Conference, Kitchen Socials, Suicide Prevention, Singles Events for Valentine’s Day, Service Canada Presentations, Culture Day, Community Conversation Café on Mental Health.
Grant Funding
Each local FCSS has the option of providing external grant funds to other organizations that can serve a local need and meet and FCSS mandate. Funding is allocated at the discretion the local board and the amount available can vary from year to year.
